Travel Backpack (Osprey Farpoint 40L)

A simple but high-quality travel backpack that makes one-bag travel actually comfortable.

A simple but high-quality travel backpack that makes one-bag travel actually comfortable. The standout feature for me is the hip belt support, which takes almost all the load off your shoulders.

Why I like it

  • Hip belt = game changer for comfort: The weight sits on your hips instead of your shoulders, which makes a huge difference on long travel days. Even fully packed, it stays manageable to carry for extended periods.
  • Carry-on friendly size: The 40L size works well as a carry-on for most airlines, as long as you don’t overpack or force it into awkward shapes.
  • Structured but flexible packing: It opens more like a suitcase than a traditional hiking pack, which makes it easier to organize clothes, packing cubes, and gear.
  • Built for movement: It’s stable when walking, climbing stairs, or moving through airports. It doesn’t feel like it’s bouncing around even when full.
  • Decent Ventilation: The “AirScape” back panel uses mesh-covered ridged foam to create airflow channels. While no backpack is perfectly sweat-proof, it does a much better job than most travel bags at keeping your back ventilated during long walks.

One limitation

  • Size might be tight for some travelers: If you pack heavy or need multiple pairs of shoes, a 40L can feel limiting. Some people would realistically be better off with the 55L version or a separate daypack system.

Practical takeaway

If you’re trying to travel light, this makes it very easy. The hip support alone is the reason I’d pick it again. It turns a fully loaded bag into something you can actually move around with comfortably.
